Your endoscopy appointment

Booking an endoscopy appointment

Outpatient appointments are booked in several ways:

  • GP referral - if your GP has requested a procedure for you, our department will be in touch about your appointment time and date, and will send you an appointment letter along with any patient information and preparation that may be required.
  • If our hospital doctor or team has requested a procedure for you, our department will be in touch about your appointment time and date and will send you an appointment letter along with any patient information and preparation that may be required.

Someone from our booking office may call you to offer or confirm a suitable date.

If you need to cancel or change your appointment, please call the appointment/booking office as soon as possible on 023 8120 6066.

Preparing for your appointment

With your appointment letter you will also receive an information booklet about the test you will have and the preparation you require. This will include full instructions on how to manage other medical conditions relevant to the test such as diabetes mellitus, or medications such as anticoagulants, antiplatelet (blood thinning treatments). The information booklet advises on what you can expect during and after your test.

If you are having the procedure with sedation or general anaesthetic, you will not be able to drive afterwards. You will need to make arrangements for getting to the department and back home again. You will need a competent adult to accompany you home and you will need to be in the company of a competent adult for the rest of the day and overnight.

Further information is available in the booklet you will be given.

Feedback

We welcome feedback on your experience at our unit, and invite you to give your view on the care or treatment you received by completing the Friends and Family Test.
