Eyelid, tear drainage and orbital conditions
Patients with disorders of the eyelids, tear drainage system and the orbit (eye socket) are seen by the oculoplastics clinic.
Blocked tear duct or watery eye
Treatment can be carried out in our eye inpatients and eye surgery department. This procedure is called dacryocystorhinostomy and is a type of surgery called ocular plastics (also known as oculoplastics).
Entropion
Entropion occurs when the eyelid turns in and the eyelashes and eyelid skin rub on the eyeball. It is usually best treated with eyelid surgery where stitches are put in the eyelid to stiffen it and stop it turning in. If it returns, or keeps returning there are a couple of different operations to resolve the problem.
Ectropion
Ectropion occurs when the lower eyelid turns outwards so that the edge of the lid no longer touches the eyeball. The condition may improve or can be managed, however, if it is troublesome there are a number of operations which can be done to help the problem.
