Cardiac intensive care unit
Our cardiac intensive care unit looks after people who are seriously ill with heart problems, usually after or immediately before having open heart surgery. It's one of only a handful of dedicated cardiac intensive care units in the country and has excellent patient outcomes for all types of heart surgery.
The unit is purpose-built with 15 beds, and has been specially designed for intensive care patients. As a centre of excellence, we treat patients from the Wessex region and beyond averaging 1400 patients per year.
You'll have one-to-one care from a specialist nurse, working alongside the rest of our team. We work to get you well and stable enough to move to a less intensive care environment, such as a high dependency unit or a hospital ward.
