Asthma, allergy and clinical immunology
We're one of the largest allergy and immunology centres in the country, providing a full service from diagnosis to treatment and children and adults. We are proud to have been the first service to be named as a world centre of excellence for allergy and immunology, designated for the World Allergy Organisation.
As a regional centre of excellence, we see patients from a wide area including Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex, parts of Berkshire, the Isle of Wight and the Falkland Islands.
We investigate, diagnose and treat all major allergic and immunological disorders which are caused by your immune system being under or over active, seeing around 3000 patients a year. We also see over 1000 severe asthma patients every year.
We'll usually see you as an outpatient, but work closely with local hospitals too. Members of our team also lead the diagnostic laboratories for allergy and immune disorders.
Our team plays an important role in education for community health providers, locally and nationally. We teach on the University of Southampton MSc programme in allergy, and on locally-organised update courses in allergy.
We also contribute to research, and have been involved in the early development of new drugs and drug trials.
For our service for children, please see our pages under Southampton Children's Hospital.
