Emergency planning
We have a central role in planning for and responding to any incident with major consequences for health or health services, in partnership with other parts of the NHS, the emergency services and local authorities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
A major incident is an emergency that requires the implementation of special arrangements for the emergency services, the NHS or the local authority. The purpose of the major incident plan is to allow effective management of casualties from a major incident. The plan prepares the hospital to deal with an overload of work in the emergency department and throughout the hospital, for which normal resources are insufficient.
