I live in Romsey and represent Abbey Ward on Test Valley Borough Council. Politics doesn’t stop there because I was MP for Romsey between 2000 and 2010 and gained a strong reputation for helping people with health issues. I was a party Health Spokesperson and on the Health Select Committee and these roles gave me a wide perspective on Health. I had a specific remit for women and older people and developed an interest in tackling diversity issues.

I am a pharmacist by profession and have been proud to have been entrusted with the roles of Chair of the English Pharmacy Board and President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (the leadership body for pharmacists of which I am also a Fellow).

I have also been an antenatal teacher for the National Childbirth Trust, Chaired the All Party Eye Health group and been a trustee of the Men’s Health Forum. I look forward to bringing my wide experience to the role of public governor.

    Declaration of Interests:

Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Councillor for the Test Valley Borough Council ward of Romsey Abbey and the Romsey Town Council ward of Romsey Tadburn

I was born with a heart defect and have been a patient of UHS my entire life. UHS is an amazing hospital, and I would like to play a part in making it even better for all the patients, carers and families that rely on it. I want to push for greater transparency and more dialogue with all service users. This dialogue is becoming increasingly vital as the NHS pushes for more services to be supplied using digital tools and via phones and computers.

I know how important it is for UHS to provide a kind, sensitive and caring experience for everyone who needs help. I have direct experience of the difference that makes, and how it feels when it goes wrong. I became a governor because I want to be part of making UHS amazing for us all and ensure that no one is excluded.

I was born in rural Herefordshire and moved as a student to Cardiff to undertake a Dental Nursing Course which combined working within a hospital setting combined with general practice in the community. This love of working within and supporting the NHS has been my main interest and motivation throughout my working life.

My move to Hampshire pre-empted a change of vocational direction as I gained administration experience as PA to Matron at Romsey Hospital. At that time a busy maternity, general surgery and convalescence retreat and very much part of the local community.

I moved into General Practice management in Romsey. A huge privilege to work alongside and with GPs, patients and staff. I set up and ran a very active Patient Participation Group within the surgery. I have since been very fortunate to work with a number of GP practices including inner city, suburban and rural, supporting and managing changes through political and financial governances.

Pre-Covid, I worked with the Wessex Deanery as they worked through the recruitment process of Foundation Year 2 students applying to specialise in General Practice.

I very much look forward to working with fellow governors in the best interests and welfare of the Trust its staff and patients.

Declaration of Interests:  Treasurer of Prescription Art Test Valley

My career has predominately been as an HR Director within the private sector. With qualifications in training and development, psychometric assessment, leadership coaching and mediation, and as an active member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, I believe that I can bring a broad understanding of the people and leadership agenda to the governance process.

I have several years’ HR project experience at UHS and RSH in the Medical Staffing department, so I understand the importance of recruiting and retaining the right senior medical personnel in creating and maintaining the hospital’s standards and reputation. I appreciate and respect the hard work, dedication and professionalism the NHS teams demonstrate.

Through my role as Chair of Workforce South, a local business HR networking group, I was appointed as UHS Governor in 2017, where I actively participated in governance activities. This enhanced my understanding of and interest in the Trust.

Declaration of Interests:  Trustee Director of Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust

I am the founding Director of a successful local business, a qualified engineer with an MBA and I have wide experience of implementing continuous improvement cultures, redesigning operating models, and managing behaviour change in complex operational environments.

I am an experienced change practitioner, trainer and coach who applies lean sigma principles, operational excellence techniques and service excellence frameworks to business problems. I have significantly improved production, operations, and customer services in sectors such as utilities, financial services, public sector, higher education, and manufacturing.

I look to inspire others to transform their operations and I can help translate the voice of the patient into organisational problems that can be solved by systems thinking and service redesign. With a career spanning 30 years I believe I have the experience, skills, and knowledge to make a valuable contribution to the trust by helping shape the future strategic direction, increasing operational effectiveness, and in turn improving the patient and staff experience of the services provided.
