Construction of new children's emergency department to resume

Once completed, the state-of-the-art facility will include an eight-bed observation area, 11 glass-fronted and soundproof cubicles and on-hand x-ray facilities. It will also develop a new triage and waiting areas for young patients, a new nurse practitioner room and an updated resuscitation facility.

The project will also create a new triage and waiting area for adult patients.

To allow for further development of the site, a section of the current ED drop off area will need to be temporarily closed. The public drop off point has been relocated to the same area as the current ambulance drop off as indicated in red on the map below. Wheelchairs are available from the emergency department.

During this period, access to the current children’s emergency department will be on the left side of the construction area with the adult’s entrance remaining in situ on the right. Extra signage has been installed to help direct patients and visitors to get where they need to be.

The nearest pick-up point for taxi services will be outside the main entrance. Please ask a member of staff if you need further assistance.
