Why biomedical science is at the heart of healthcare

I have worked at UHS as a Senior Biomedical Scientist for 22 years and I can say I absolutely love my job and I work alongside such inspirational people every day.

Over the years we've had a stand at the front of the hospital to promote our profession, as there are so many amazing biomedical scientists within Laboratory Medicine, Microbiology, Histology / Cytology, who all go above and beyond in their roles. We all work together and share ideas.

Biomedical Scientists play a vital role in healthcare by processing pathological specimens for screening, diagnostic and monitoring purposes.

We take pride in our work at UHS to provide accurate, timely and appropriate analytical data every day. We liaise with other healthcare professionals to maximise the effectiveness of the service.

Despite making up only 5% of the healthcare workforce, 70% of all diagnoses are attributed to the work of biomedical scientists. Biomedical scientists analyse over 150 million samples every year and everyone at some point in their life will benefit from the work that biomedical scientists do.
