Training and education
Dr Carvalhosa specialises in haemostasis and thrombosis. She undertook clinical research projects in bleeding disorders during her undergraduate training in Brussels, Belgium, before starting her postgraduate training in the east of England and later at Wessex. She remains associated to clinical research through the wide range of trials provided within her subspeciality.
Experience
Dr Carvalhosa runs clinics in haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, thrombotic disorders, immune haematology, and general non-malignant haematology. Many patients directly referred from primary care are reviewed here and provided with advice accordingly.
She has a special interest in obstetric haematology and has joined the regional maternal medicine network team based at UHS, advising on haematology issues related to pregnancy. She also provides an alternate week joint obstetric and haematology clinic and works with the paediatric team in their haemostasis and thrombosis monthly clinic.
Teaching and training
Dr Carvalhosa is very dedicated to teaching and education, having led on a number of projects throughout the years. She is currently the education lead for haematology in UHS and works closely with the directors of the Wessex haematology training programme to improve education both locally and across the region.
